First of all, I am so sorry if your child has had some kind of infection requiring antibiotics. That’s never fun to have a sick child. Once someone starts antibiotics, this is usually the case for kids or adults, it usually takes about 48 hours to see some difference in symptoms. And if you’re not seeing any difference in symptoms, or especially if you’re seeing worsening symptoms after that point, then you should call the doctor back and see if they want to change the plan or check them out at that point. We would love to hear from you. If you have any questions that you’d like to ask I will be answering them on a weekly basis. If you have any questions that you’d like to ask anonymously then you can go to our Intermountain Moms Facebook page, click on the “ask Nurse Dani” tab, and ask them there as well as see answers.

You have a really good question about your child’s milk allergy and this can present a great challenge for parents and children alike. Your doctor has recommended special formula, the Nutramigen, for your baby because they have a hard time breaking down the proteins found in milk. And hydrolyzed formula which is what Nutramigen is has chopped up proteins in it that make it easier for your baby to digest. So that’s why they told you to feed this to your baby. And there’s no doubt about it, Nutramigen stinks to us and probably doesn’t taste the best to the baby. But you can keep trying and his taste buds might adapt. Or there’s a competitor’s brand out there called Alimentum and you can try that and see if your baby takes a little bit better to the taste of that. If you’re still having problems getting your baby to eat then talk to your baby’s doctor and he or she might have some further recommendations or want to see your baby especially if they’re not getting enough to eat or refusing to eat altogether and they’re not gaining weight. Those can be some serious issues that really need to be addressed. But you can try the competitor’s brand or just give it a couple more days as long as you feel like he’s getting enough inside to stay well hydrated. And good luck. If you have any questions that you’d like to ask anonymously click on “ask Nurse Dani” underneath the profile picture and we will answer those questions as well.

Most parenting methods recommend the use of rewards (such as giving stickers, candy or iPhones) and punishment (such as taking away stickers, candy or limiting data usage on iPhones) to get cooperation from children. These strategies statistically only work for a very short period of time and can raise everyone’s blood pressure. Tired of Yelling replaces threats, bribes, loss of privileges, time-out and grounding with effective, nurturing skills. Kids raised with this approach become self-motivated and self-disciplined, making better choices throughout childhood and beyond.
Aviva Schwab, M.Ed. is the mastermind behind Tired of Yelling, is a mom and a veteran parenting expert. When Aviva was raising her own 2 kids, parenting was so much fun that she and her husband used to “fight” over who got to pick them up from school (even when they were teenagers…).
The Tired of Yelling method uses logical consequences instead of yelling. When children experience the consequences of their actions, they begin to make good choices about their behavior. The MP3 download from Tired of Yelling gives potential parents (and current parents) the instructions to make raising kids easy and fun.
