In 2008, John McEnroe was at the Tennis Hall of Fame at an event where he was scheduled to interact with fans in a round robin and participate in a tournament for charity. Although Pat Cash, Jim Courier, MaliVai Washington (also shown in video), Magnus Larsson, Wayne Ferreira, and Mikael Pernfors were an exciting draw in their own right- gentlemen and sportsmen who were so generous with their time- honestly a great group of guys- McEnroe has a mystique despite, or because, of his legendarily short fuse. His roles in commercials and films suggest that he has overcome his attitude and it’s become an ironic joke but, during the round robin, he disappointed participants by bowing out early and, while it is tough to tell if he’s putting it on or really flipping out, threw a wobbly, highlights shown here, during the charity match. We captured the only footage of this, which seems to be his last tantrum to date. It was a shame, because a lot of fans were looking forward to meeting him and expected better.
