Church Etiquette for Kids – Parenting Tips

Published by admin on December 31, 2011

Church Etiquette for Kids, Parenting Tips – as part of the expert series by GeoBeats.

Now, when you take your children to church, you are going to want to make sure that they are on their best behavior and that they make a great impression. So here are a couple of easy tips to teach your children so that they have wonderful manners when they go to church. First is that they need to walk in smiling and looking up. You do not want them to be moping and looking at the ground like they do not want to be there, that does not make the right impression. Also, when they meet people, especially for the very first time, you want to practice with your children ahead of time so that they can do it every single time they meet somebody, but it is to look the person in the eyes, smile, extend their hand, give a nice, firm handshake, say their name and it is nice to meet you. So, fore example, I would say, “Hello, I am Aimee Symington. It is nice to meet you.” If your children can do that they are going to make a great impression, what nice manners they have.

Also, children should be encouraged to call adults by Mr. and Mrs. So, Mrs. Smith, Mr. Jones, that type of thing, and never use their first name unless the adult has given them permission. Now, if you are in the Southern United States, children are also encouraged to say, “Yes, ma’am,” or “No, sir.” Using ma’am and sir are very polite things to say. Now, when your child is in the church, sitting in the pew, that is where they really need to put on their best show. So, encourage them to sit still, to have their feet facing forward, and to sit and listen. Now, with some of our younger children who have short attention spans, it sometimes is OK for you to bring something for them to look at, a simple picture book or a pad of paper and a pencil for them to use to keep them quiet during the church service.

Now, if your child is going to Sunday School, then they can certainly remember the basics of having polite manners such as saying please and thank you, no running around, and showing respect and kindness to others. So, talk to your children about these easy tips to have nice manners at church.

Parenthood on Earth – Refreshing Tips for You

Published by admin on December 31, 2011

Parenthood on Earth - Refreshing Tips for You
Product DescriptionMaria Tehuti’s book “Parenthood on Earth” is a compassionate guide for those who are, were, or would like to be parents. In addition, it speaks to children of all ages, and bridges the gaps that too-often form between young and old, parent and child, husband and wife.

Tehuti gives practical advice on everything from naming your child to selecting your partner. She provides methods by which to hone your intuition and words that lead to having more faith. Tehuti sympathizes with those who have lost children, those who have not had children yet, and those who have struggled with their parents and wish to smooth things over.

Parenthood is a difficult yet blissful time, and occasionally we might be frustrated yet fascinated, exhausted yet elated. This book is not simply filled with descriptions of how wonderful it is to be a parent, but also how difficult it is, and how trying the years can get. Still, there is hope here, and lots of it. Tehuti acts as a coach, urging you on to the next stage of your spiritual and human completion, no matter what your circumstances may be, or whether you are a parent or a child.

All of Tehuti’s considerations are offered and suggested with love, not pressure, and this serves to make her advice much easier to bear, whether you are expecting or the expected.

77 Ways to Get Your Kids to Help at Home (77 Ways to Parent Series)

77 Ways to Get Your Kids to Help at Home (77 Ways to Parent Series)
Product DescriptionWe want our children to grow and prosper but we also want some cooperation and help in keeping the house and chores done. Our children may very well think that our only goal is to get them to clean the laundry room and keep them from going to the mall. But in a parent’s mind, we see our goal as raising a responsible, trustworthy human being who will be able to stand on his own tow feet in life. (It sure helps to have a clean laundry room, however.)

For all of us in learning to do new jobs, we not only need to learn the new skill, methods and equipment but the determination to stick with it and gain efficiency, speed and accuracy. We all need help and the only way our children can learn good work habits is with parental assistance, supervision and cooperation. This takes much longer than simply drawing up a job chart or pasting a star on a forehead. It takes patience, patience and more patience.

If we look at this time spent teaching our children how to work as an irritant, both the parent and child lose. However, if we look upon this time as working closely with a good friend to insure his life long success, it will be time well spent.

There is no harder occupation in the world than parenting. We receive little or no training for it and our children try very hard to convince us that we are doing it incorrectly.

Respect is a two way street. Parents must walk it with their children. But sharing the journey to a successful contributing life with someone you love is one of the real joys of parenting.

However, I am convinced that as parents we need to stop feeling so guilty when we fall short of our own and others expectations. We are all doing the best we can with the information and experiences that we have right now. The fact that you attend training sessions or buy books such as this indicates that you are trying to do better. Our goal should be to be a better parent today than we were yesterday and to maintain an atmosphere in the home where mutual respect, support and love are present.

Good luck and God bless. You do an important work.

Please help convince my parents to get me a leopard gecko?

Published by admin on December 31, 2011

Hi,

My parents think that leopard gecko’s are too much work. I want one so bad! I own a bearded dragon and I am responsible enough to own another lizard.

They are a lot less work than a bearded dragon and would use a lot of the same food and supplies. My guess is that they aren’t too happy with the lizard you have now and just don’t want another in the house. If you really want to try though, research care and explain to them what a gecko needs. If they still say no, let it go. You won’t change their minds.

Oh, watermelon baby! How did you get in there? Did you eat your way in? Are you just in there to survey the damage caused by your hungry baby appetite? That’s so much watermelon for you to eat, watermelon baby. So much. Sure, it’s possible that one of your parents just placed you in the watermelon, but that seems just a bit too convenient.
