   I don’t know about that. You might just search government grants for the elderly or something like that. My parents built on to their house for one of my grandmothers. However, they used the money from the sale of her house to build on her granny flat.

   The government is not capable of understanding such a reasonable request. Try private charities , they are staffed with people who really understand and at least want to do good.

   Unfortunately, probably not. You can, however, preferably with their permission, apply for conservatorship, or guardianship, or both, for them. This will involve at least one visit to an attorney who specializes in such things. If the parents are agreeable, it should be easy. Then you will have access to their assets to use to apply for a loan for the addition.
