My son has difficulties "trying to get out his story" It seems like he is kinda stuttering but not exactly. What can I do as a parent to help and what should I ask for in his IEP? He has an IEP in place for his diag. of aspergers syndrome already but no one is addressing the speech problem
Sometimes you have to go beyond just having a school speech therapist. YOu have to get help from an outside source sometimes. I would talk to my physician and get some information from your family doctor. Special Education teachers and therapist are limited. I am a special education teacher and have written many IEP’s. My son also has an IEP for speech and we at times have to go for outside help.

I am having a hard time with my 27 mo old throwing loud, dramatic tantrums. I am with her 99% of the time and I hate to say it, but I feel like I’m failing and I am literally losing my mind. I am trying everything I can think of to calm her down, sometimes my strategies are calm and rational and sometimes they are not. And as of late, I have been giving in just to calm her down which only makes the Tantrums more frequent. Any advice on how to break the cycle of tantrums while preserving self-esteem?
PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN each time another tantrum is thrown.
(When they are old enough to realize Right / Wrong, begin the NAUGHTY SPOT-technique.
%With each outburst, place them in [a specified spot] for a duration of time that you feel is adequate (commonly 1 minute per each year of age.)
Then EXPLAIN why you placed them in this spot, giving them the altimatum to remain quiet (staying out of the Naughty Spot (N.S.) or return to this spot for each tantrum and duration-time.

ok i really want xbox live but my parents say no. I have my own laptop so i can do xbox live and i am willing to pay 1/2 for the wifi cost, and maybe more… my stepdad is really stubborn and says no, what are good argument points i can use to persuade him to let me play it without being rude about it?
Maybe you can try to do some jobs around the house, then save up $50 so you can pay for xbox live for yourself. I’m sure part of the reason they don’t want you playing games online is because they would rather you be out being productive. If you show them you can be productive and responsible (by paying for XBox live yourself) then maybe they’ll give you a chance and let you try it.
There’s all kinds of things you should be able to do to make a little money for that. Help around the house, mow a neighbor’s lawn, etc..

The first intentional behavior our children learn is to whine. This is good and natural, and we reward it by giving them what they want – food, sleep, or comfort. As they grow however, we want to help them learn more effective and appropriate ways to communicate their needs. So we have to unlearn some things too.
