If you’re to afraid to tell your parents that you’re pregnant but want to get an abortion will the clinic help?
And if you do get an abortion does it go on your medical record?
This is for a friend who is only 13, and lives in Georgia.

Well, the rules about abortion are different depending on where you live. In some states, a minor can legally get an abortion without telling her parents. In others, there are parental consent or parental notification laws. Parental consent means that you will need to get permission from a parent if you are under a certain age, usually 18. Parental notification means that you will have to tell a parent if you are under a certain age, usually 18, but you don’t need their permission in order to get the abortion; you can get the abortion whether they object to it or not. You just have to tell them about it.

This website lists all of the parental consent and parental notification laws for every state in the U.S. as of January 2010:

In Georgia, parental notification is required.

If you are thinking about getting an abortion and live in a state where there is a parental consent/notification law, it’s a good idea to call a clinic in your state (or call the Abortion Hotline at 1-800-772-9100) and talk with someone about your options. Usually you can get around telling your parents by going to a clinic in a state without these restrictions or by explaining your situation to a judge (this is called a judicial bypass). But this can take time, so call right away.

In a judicial bypass, a judge basically signs the parental consent/parental notification papers for you, so you don’t have to tell your parents. For more information on how to get a judicial bypass, just go here:

http://www.positive.org/JustSayYes/JudicialBypass.htm

Abortions typically cost anywhere from $350-$1,000 in the first trimester, depending on where you live and where you choose to have the abortion done. If you don’t have the money to pay for the abortion, then my best advice is to go to your local Planned Parenthood. The doctors and counselors at Planned Parenthood can definitely help you get the services you need. They won’t turn you away or refuse to give you an abortion, even if you can’t pay for it. Planned Parenthood offers low-cost or free abortions to women who cannot afford to pay the normal price of an abortion. If you go to your local Planned Parenthood health care center and just tell them that you have no job, no money, no support, and cannot afford to pay for an abortion, they will just make you fill out some paperwork about your current financial status and then make you pay about $100 for the abortion or whatever you can reasonably afford, based on your income. (If you are under 18, they might even be able to arrange for you to have the abortion for free.) To find the Planned Parenthood nearest you, just go to the Planned Parenthood website and type in your zipcode (on the front page):

http://www.plannedparenthood.org

Also, everything that happens at Planned Parenthood is completely confidential. They won’t put it on your medical record. They won’t notify your parents or discuss your abortion procedure with anyone else. Legally, they CAN’T tell anyone else about your abortion, due to doctor-patient confidentiality laws. So don’t worry about that.

Best of luck. I hope that helped!

They might help and I’m not sure if it will go on your medical record. But I would never suggest getting an abortion. No matter how afraid you are you parent’s might be really supportive no matter how old you are. And plus abortion is a horrible thing because the poor baby wont even get a chance at life and yet there are millions of women in the world that can’t have kids because of medical reasons but people just get rid of their babys because they mad a mistake or they didn’t want them. I think abortion is a horrible idea but it’s your life and your choices and I’m just giving you my opinion and just think about it before you get rid of your poor baby. Because everyone needs a chance at life.

That depends on what state you live in. Some states have laws that state that minors (I’m assuming you are one) have to get their parent’s permission, or get a judge to give permission, prior to getting an abortion. It is likely to go on the medical record at the clinic.

That being said, in many cases it’s better to let your parents help you, even if it is scary. Maybe not if they’re abusive, but most parents are willing to help their kids (even if they are initially disappointed).

Already a murderer at 13? wow.
Why doesn’t your "friend" just take responsibility for her actions.

It all depends on where you are from. The best thing to do would be to call the clinic where you live and talk to them. And don’t let the sheep calling you a murderer affect your decision, they are motivated by ignorance and group thought and are incapable of objective rationalization. You should tell your parents and get the procedure done even if you are too young, it would be much better than what awaits you otherwise…

  8. lala Said,

Please convince her otherwise. If you’re a good friend you would show her all the other options she had. She could give the baby up to adoption, raise it herself, or even get help from crisis pregnancy centers. Please show her all the facts about abortion. It kills innocent babies. Life begins at conception: Scientists that study embryos even agree to this. Tell her not to be afraid to tell her parents I’m sure they would rather know the truth and what is happening to their daughter it just isn’t right to do something like that behind their back. If they do find out that would loose all their trust for their own daughter.
