How do you control Tantrums in a 16 year old autistic girl?
Published by admin on May 31, 2010When she doesn’t get her own way, when she’s told no or when she’s frustrated she throws Tantrums where she cries, shouts, kicks, screams, stamps, hits and sometimes bites in public or at home and I don’t know how to control them.
Her mental age is much younger than a ‘normal’ 16 year old girl so I’m unsure of how to punish/ control them..
Please help?
prevention, you have to stop that stuff from the an early age so for any future use.
second, tough love. if she ever get in a tantrum you do not do what she wants, you do not buy her stuff, if its in public you drive home and she can not do what she wants. it does not matter. She has to get it that if she screams or anything like that you do not give in.
third, time out, make a place where there is nothing but a chair, if she does something wrong you send her to it, you do not let her get out until she has calmed down.
