Will I be able to get income support on my maternity leave, single mum?

Published by admin on May 31, 2010

I am pregnant, in full time employment, earning £32,000 annually. I will be a single parent, therefore as soon as my SMP starts of £124 per week I won’t be able to survive! Can I claim during this period income support? I won’t get anything else extra from my employer. Can I claim any other benefits? As soon as my maternity leave ends I would like to go back to work.

Could you explain why the taxpayers should support you when you decided to get pregnant when you knew you would not be able to support yourself and your baby?

I need easy recipes for a single dad?

Published by admin on May 31, 2010

I need to learn to start cooking for me and my daughter (on my weekends) and would like some eay, nitritional ideas to start out with.

Beanie-weenies – can of beans and cut up hotdogs.

grilled cheese – butter one side of a piece of bread, put it butter side down in the pan, add one or two slices of Kraft cheese, butter another piece of bread, put it butter side up.

Pigs in a blanket – different variations.
1 – make frozen pancakes in the microwave. Make microwave sausage. wrap a pancake around a sausage.
2 – unroll a can of crescent rolls – separate the triangles and then cut each one into 2 triangles. cut hotdogs in half and wrap each hotdog piece in a triangle. the ends of the hotdogs will not be covered. look on the package for directions for baking – time and temp.

tuna ball. drain a can of tuna and empty it in a bowl. Add 1 package of lite cream cheese. mix well. add a few drops of Tabasco sauce and a couple shakes of seasoned salt. take a taste to make sure it’s not too hot for the kids. it probably won’t be and you may need to add a few more drops of Tabasco. Serve with any kind of wheat crackers for dipping.

always bring out the fresh veggies and lite veggie dip.

You’ll do fine. Just think about what you are giving your daughter.

I never dealt with it too much with my daughter. She will be 4 in a week. When she flares up, I just leave her, ignore it, and don’t feed her fuel. She recognizes that it gets her nowhere. My son is 17 months old. So far, he hasn’t had one…but he has a more stubborn personality. He may try harder at the Tantrums…but hopefully, he will also see that it gets him nothing.

How do you control Tantrums in a 16 year old autistic girl?

Published by admin on May 31, 2010

When she doesn’t get her own way, when she’s told no or when she’s frustrated she throws Tantrums where she cries, shouts, kicks, screams, stamps, hits and sometimes bites in public or at home and I don’t know how to control them.

Her mental age is much younger than a ‘normal’ 16 year old girl so I’m unsure of how to punish/ control them..

Please help?

prevention, you have to stop that stuff from the an early age so for any future use.

second, tough love. if she ever get in a tantrum you do not do what she wants, you do not buy her stuff, if its in public you drive home and she can not do what she wants. it does not matter. She has to get it that if she screams or anything like that you do not give in.

third, time out, make a place where there is nothing but a chair, if she does something wrong you send her to it, you do not let her get out until she has calmed down.

Any funny kid stories?

Published by admin on May 31, 2010

My son fell and scraped his knee and he wanted to go get a band aid. So, I let him go and get it himself. When he came back in the room he had a maxi pad stuck to his knee and was so excited about the huge band aids he had found.

Does anyone else have any Funny Kid stories?

My sons found my sister’s umm feminine hygiene product that the dog had gotten out of the garbage and they came and told me they found her dirty diaper. They were like "ew she wears diapers and she pooped in this one".

A Californian single mother-of-six who recently gave birth to octuplets has spoken for the first time about her desire to have a “huge” family.

In excerpts from a TV interview yet to be broadcast, Nadya Suleman said she wanted to make up for the loneliness she felt growing up as an only child.

Ms Suleman, 33, also defended her decision to conceive her children through in vitro fertilisation (IVF).

The case has sparked a debate over the ethics of her treatment.

“That was always a dream of mine, to have a large family, a huge family”
- Nadya Suleman

Fertility experts have raised concerns about the number of embryos implanted that resulted in the octuplets’ birth, and questioned whether the procedure met medical guidelines.

Ms Suleman, whose six older children are aged two to seven, said that all 14 of her children were conceived through IVF with sperm donated by a friend.

Investigation

Speaking to NBC’s Today Show, due to be broadcast next week, Ms Suleman defended her decision to conceive by IVF.

“I took a risk. It’s a gamble. It always is,” she said.

“A lot of couples, usually it’s couples, do undergo this procedure and it’s not as controversial because they are couples so it’s more acceptable to society.

“All I wanted was children. I wanted to be a mom. That’s all I ever wanted in my life. I love my children.”
- Nadya Suleman

“For me, I feel as though I’ve been under the microscope because I’ve chosen this unconventional kind of life. I didn’t intend on it being unconventional, just it turned out to be,” she added. Asked about her background as a single child, she said: “All I wanted was children. I wanted to be a mom. That’s all I ever wanted in my life. I love my children.

“That was always a dream of mine, to have a large family, a huge family.

“I just longed for certain connections and attachments with another person that… I really lacked, I believe, growing up.”

She said she had tried for seven years to get pregnant before finally conceiving through IVF.

“From that facility, it was successful. And then I just kept going in,” she said.

Asked whether she had considered reducing the number of embryos that had successfully implanted, she replied: “Oh no. Sometimes we have that dream and that passion, and we take risks. And I did and it turned out perfectly.”

A huge team was needed to deliver the octuplets successfully

Ms Suleman’s eight babies were delivered nine weeks early by Caesarean section in a hospital near Los Angeles on 26 January.

All are reported to be doing well.

The facility, the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Bellflower, California, has said it was not involved in the octuplets’ conception.

The California Medical Board has begun an investigation into whether there was a “violation of the standard of care” in the case.

The American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) recommends that women of Ms Suleman’s age have no more than two embryos implanted.

Fertility experts have pointed to a lack of regulation in the field and called for professional organisations to put stricter rules in place for doctors and clinics.

Multi-birth pregnancies come with a heightened risk of premature birth and health risks for the mother and the babies.
